my story
As a musician and composer, C.A. Nicola’s creative path began with a profound encounter with minimalist and contemporary music, notably the work of Philip Glass, which inspired his first explorations into composition. In 2011, he released his debut album Novus Digestor (Latin for “new composer”), a collection that laid the foundation for his ongoing musical evolution. Though subsequent compositions, including his follow-up project Maestro, remain unreleased, his catalog of works, from ambient explorations like Tree of Life to spoken-word pieces and lyrical soundscapes, reflects a restless imagination and an artist constantly learning and expanding his musical vocabulary.
C.A. is equally at home in visual arts and filmmaking. He has completed multiple short films centered on his original clown character, Capricieux, a whimsical alter ego born of formal clown training in 2017. Capricieux’s Quest, his first film in this series, has garnered festival accolades, including “Best Experimental Comedy” at the Night of Comedy Shorts in Milan, Italy, a testament to his ability to blend humor, performance, and cinematic craft into unique, memorable works.
Whether in front of or behind the camera, C.A. infuses his work with a distinctive blend of technical skill and playful invention. His training in improvisation informs both his performances and his collaborative process on set, allowing for spontaneity and organic creative moments that elevate each project.
Photography is another core facet of his artistic identity. Inspired by classic portraiture and cinema, he captures stills that reveal both the poetic and unconventional in everyday life. From experimental and expired film techniques to intimate portrait work, his photographic practice deepens his engagement with light, texture, and narrative possibilities in visual art.
Across disciplines, C.A. Nicola’s work is rooted in exploration, curiosity, and the joy of creative risk-taking. Whether composing a new sonic landscape, embodying a character on film, or framing an evocative portrait, he continues to push boundaries and invite audiences into his whimsical, thoughtful world of performance and image.
